A fire incident took place at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport's Terminal 1 in Mumbai during the evening of April 9 after a short circuit occurred in an electrical section of a three-storey structure near the 1-B Circle area. The fire was quickly detected and brought under control by the Mumbai Fire Brigade along with the airport's emergency response team. Authorities confirmed that the fire remained minor in nature, no casualties were reported, and flight operations were not affected. According to airport officials, the fire originated in a three-storey structure located near the 1-B Circle area. The situation was immediately reported, following which the Mumbai Fire Brigade and the airport's internal emergency response team were deployed to the spot.
Officials stated that the fire remained confined largely to the ground floor area and did not spread to other parts of the building. The airport's spokesperson confirmed that the incident was caused by an electrical short circuit and described it as minor in nature.
The emergency teams managed to control and extinguish the fire within a short period after reaching the site. It was also noted that the airport's internal response team acted quickly, helping contain the situation even before the fire brigade fully took charge.
Authorities further confirmed that there were no injuries or casualties reported in the incident. Importantly, airport operations, including both arrivals and departures, continued without disruption during the incident.
As a precautionary step after smoke was observed in the affected section, certain electrical systems in that area were temporarily shut down for around an hour. During this period, safety checks were carried out to ensure that all systems were stable and the premises were secure before restoring normal functioning.
Passengers present in the terminal experienced limited inconvenience, but officials maintained that there was no impact on flight schedules or airport services. The affected area was later cleared after standard safety procedures were completed.
The incident highlights the importance of rapid response systems and routine safety preparedness at major transport hubs such as Mumbai airport, where electrical faults can lead to operational risks if not controlled quickly. Authorities are expected to carry out internal inspections of electrical systems as part of routine post-incident safety protocols to prevent similar issues in the future.
