Synopsis

The Uttar Pradesh government is progressing with plans to develop eight data centre parks across major cities, with expected investments of around INR 2 lakh crore. The projects are likely to generate over 50,000 direct jobs and strengthen digital infrastructure in the state. Land allocation has moved forward in key locations like Noida and Greater Noida, with some projects already under construction. Several domestic and global companies have shown interest, supported by policy incentives, power infrastructure planning and the state's focus on becoming a data centre and AI hub.

The Uttar Pradesh government is moving forward with the development of eight data centre parks across key cities, aiming to attract investments of nearly INR 2 lakh crore. The plan is expected to create more than 50,000 direct jobs and support the expansion of digital and technology-driven sectors in the state.

The proposed locations include Noida, Greater Noida, the Yamuna Expressway region near Jewar, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi and Agra. Land allocation has already been completed in parts of Noida, Greater Noida and along the Yamuna Expressway, where some companies have received parcels. In Ghaziabad and Lucknow, the land process is at an advanced stage, while site identification and planning are still ongoing in Kanpur, Varanasi and Agra.

Officials indicated that investment proposals worth around INR 2 lakh crore have been received so far, with several memorandums of understanding and initial agreements already signed. Some of the projects, especially in Noida and Greater Noida, have entered the construction phase, showing early progress on ground execution.

Interest has come from major domestic and global players such as HCLTech, Adani Group, NTT Data, Yotta Infrastructure, Sterlite Technologies, Sify Technologies and Panasonic. Their participation reflects growing confidence in the state's data centre ecosystem and policy framework.

To support these developments, the state is working on strengthening infrastructure such as high-speed connectivity, logistics networks and uninterrupted power supply. The total power requirement for these parks is estimated to be around 900 MW, and plans are being made to ensure supply through grid upgrades and new substations. The government is also encouraging the use of renewable energy to improve long-term sustainability of operations.

The initiative is aligned with the state's data centre policy, which was introduced earlier and later revised to attract higher private investment. The policy offers incentives including capital subsidies, exemptions on electricity duty and stamp duty, and a single-window clearance system to speed up approvals.

This plan builds on earlier efforts by the state to position itself as a digital infrastructure and AI hub. In the past, Uttar Pradesh has attracted multiple technology-related investment proposals, particularly in the Noida and Greater Noida region, which has already emerged as a key data centre cluster due to its proximity to Delhi-NCR and strong connectivity.
