The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated 325 development projects worth INR 6,466 crore in Agra, including the proposed Greater Agra township. Planned across about 449 hectares, the township will feature multiple residential sectors and supporting infrastructure. Alongside this, several projects focused on roads, civic amenities and public services have been launched. The move is aimed at improving connectivity, planned urban growth and economic activity, while strengthening Agra's position as an emerging urban centre in the state.
The government of Uttar Pradesh has launched and laid the foundation for 325 projects in Agra with a total investment of INR 6,466.37 crore. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during his visit to the city, where he outlined a broader plan for urban expansion and infrastructure improvement.
A major part of this investment is the proposed Greater Agra township, which is estimated to cost around INR 5,142 crore. The project will be developed by the Agra Development Authority under the state's New City Promotion Scheme. It is planned over approximately 449.65 hectares in areas such as Raipur and Rahankalan. The layout includes around 10 residential sectors along with provision for commercial and mixed-use development.
The chief minister indicated that the township is being planned on the lines of established urban centres such as Noida, with a focus on organised development, better infrastructure and attracting private investment. He conveyed that the project is expected to support job creation and improve living standards in the region.
In addition to the township, projects worth over INR 1,300 crore have been launched across the district. These include works related to roads, drainage systems, drinking water supply, public facilities and other civic infrastructure. The aim is to strengthen basic services while improving overall connectivity within the city and nearby areas.
Planning details show that the Greater Agra township will have wide internal roads, green spaces and essential utility infrastructure. Its location near the Agra Inner Ring Road is expected to improve access to key highways and expressways, supporting faster movement within the region and linking it to nearby economic corridors.
Agra has already seen infrastructure upgrades in recent years, including metro rail development and housing expansion projects. The Greater Agra plan builds on these efforts and reflects a continued push towards planned urbanisation in tier-2 cities. The focus remains on creating structured growth rather than unplanned expansion, while attracting both residents and businesses.
