IndiGo is set to increase its domestic operations to nearly 2,000 daily flights during the summer schedule, expanding capacity as travel demand rises across India. The airline, which currently operates over 1,850 daily flights, is adding new routes and boosting frequencies after resolving earlier operational constraints. Network expansion includes new destinations like Bhavnagar and Jamnagar, along with increased connectivity from key hubs and upcoming airports such as Navi Mumbai and Noida International Airport. Alongside domestic growth, IndiGo is also expanding internationally with new routes and aircraft, while continuing to manage challenges like airspace restrictions, airport congestion and rising operational costs.
IndiGo, operated by InterGlobe Aviation, is preparing to scale up its domestic operations to nearly 2,000 daily flights during the ongoing summer schedule, as it expands its network and restores capacity following disruptions experienced in late 2025, according to company officials. The airline, headquartered in Gurugram, is increasing flight frequencies and adding new routes across India to meet seasonal demand and improve connectivity. Advertisement
The carrier currently operates more than 1,850 domestic flights per day and is gradually increasing this number as operational conditions stabilise. The expansion follows a period when IndiGo had implemented a 10% capacity reduction due to operational challenges, including crew constraints and aircraft availability issues. With these constraints easing, the airline is now aligning its schedule to accommodate higher passenger volumes during the peak travel season.
Senior company officials have indicated that the airline has introduced a series of operational measures to support the expanded schedule. These include enhanced real-time monitoring systems through upgraded dashboards, as well as improvements in crew and aircraft rostering to ensure better utilisation of resources. The airline has also strengthened workforce planning to match anticipated demand levels, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for smooth operations.
Network expansion remains a key component of IndiGo's strategy. The airline has been adding new domestic destinations such as Bhavnagar and Jamnagar, while also increasing connectivity from key aviation hubs. Operations at Navi Mumbai are being scaled up significantly, with plans for more than 400 weekly departures. In parallel, the airline is preparing to commence services from the upcoming Noida International Airport, with initial operations expected to begin in the coming months.
On the international front, IndiGo is expanding its footprint through the introduction of new routes and aircraft. The induction of Airbus A321XLR aircraft is enabling the airline to explore longer-haul destinations, including direct services to Athens, while additional routes to Shanghai and Reunion Island are also being introduced. These developments reflect a dual focus on strengthening domestic operations while expanding international reach.
Despite the planned expansion, the airline has acknowledged ongoing challenges in the operating environment. Airspace restrictions, congestion at key airports, and rising costs related to fuel and insurance continue to affect operational planning. The airline has indicated that it will continue to monitor these factors closely and adjust capacity based on both operational feasibility and commercial demand.
IndiGo remains the largest airline in India by market share and continues to expand its network across both domestic and international markets. The planned increase in daily flights reflects a broader recovery in the aviation sector, with carriers scaling up operations to meet growing passenger demand and improve connectivity across regions.
