Residents of several housing societies in Mohali have demanded urgent action to resume construction of the long-delayed PR-6 road, a planned arterial corridor intended to improve connectivity between Airport Road and the Kharar Landran Road. Members of the Committee of Resident Welfare Associations and Societies (CORWAS) staged a protest outside a private developer's office in Sector 119 in the past week, alleging that the project has remained stalled due to a legal dispute involving the builder. Residents said the road alignment was earlier used in marketing nearby real estate projects but construction has not progressed, affecting thousands of households across the Mega Mohali area. The matter is currently before the court, with the next hearing scheduled for early April. Authorities have not commented on the issue, citing the case's sub judice status.
Residents of several housing societies in Mohali have called for urgent intervention by state authorities to resume construction of the proposed PR-6 road, a key infrastructure link that has remained stalled amid a legal dispute involving a private developer. The demand intensified in the past week when members of the Committee of Resident Welfare Associations and Societies (CORWAS), representing multiple residential communities in the Mega Mohali area, staged a protest outside the developer's office in Sector 119 seeking immediate progress on the project.
According to residents, the PR-6 corridor was planned as a major connecting road intended to improve traffic flow between Airport Road and the Kharar Landran Road. The road alignment runs through multiple sectors of Mohali and was designed to serve as a critical transport link for emerging residential zones in the city's expanding urban periphery. However, despite the road being part of the regional master plan, construction has not progressed, leaving the corridor incomplete and affecting daily commuting for thousands of residents in nearby sectors.
Members of CORWAS alleged that the project has been halted due to a legal dispute involving a private builder whose land falls along the proposed road alignment. According to the residents association, the developer secured a stay order from the court, which has effectively stalled construction work. The group further claimed that the same road alignment had earlier been highlighted in marketing campaigns for nearby residential developments, raising concerns among homebuyers about delays in promised infrastructure.
Residents also stated that several representations have been submitted to government authorities and the Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA), requesting intervention to resolve the issue and restart the project. The association has urged authorities to examine the approvals granted to the developer and take steps to ensure that the road construction proceeds without further delays. Protesters indicated that the prolonged inaction has left residents dependent on narrow internal roads, contributing to congestion and safety concerns in the area.
Officials from the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) and PUDA declined to comment on the matter, noting that the dispute is currently pending before the court. According to sources familiar with the case, the developer had earlier accepted compensation under a government policy introduced in 2015 but later sought higher compensation, which led to litigation and a stay on the project. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for April 1.
Urban planners note that the PR-6 road is part of the broader infrastructure framework intended to support Mohali's expansion and connect emerging residential sectors with major traffic corridors. Residents groups have indicated that they will continue raising the issue with state authorities and may organise further demonstrations if construction does not resume soon.
