Air India has announced the launch of two new international routes aimed at strengthening connectivity between India and key Asian destinations. The airline will start non-stop flights between Delhi and Hanoi from 1 May 2026, making the Vietnamese capital its second destination in the country after Ho Chi Minh City. It will also introduce direct services between Mumbai and Tokyo's Haneda Airport from 15 June 2026. The new routes are part of the airline's broader effort to expand its international network, respond to rising travel demand, and improve connections between India and fast-growing markets across Asia.
Air India has announced two new international routes connecting India with Vietnam and Japan as part of its network expansion across Asia. The airline will introduce non-stop flights between Delhi and Hanoi and another direct service between Mumbai and Tokyo's Haneda Airport, improving connectivity between India and these key Asian destinations.
The Delhi Hanoi service will begin operations from 1 May 2026 and will operate five times a week. Hanoi will become Air India's second destination in Vietnam after Ho Chi Minh City, where the airline already runs daily flights. The new route will be operated using Airbus A320neo aircraft configured with business class, premium economy and economy class cabins.
With the introduction of this service, the airline expects to add over 7,000 seats every month on the India Vietnam sector. The route will allow travellers to plan multi-city travel within Vietnam by entering through Hanoi and departing from Ho Chi Minh City or the other way around. Passengers travelling on this route will also be able to connect to several domestic and international destinations through Air India's network from Delhi.
The airline has stated that the Delhi hub will offer convenient onward connections to destinations in Europe, the United Kingdom and North America, which is expected to support tourism and business travel between Vietnam and other global markets through India.
Air India will also expand its Japan connectivity with the launch of non-stop flights between Mumbai and Tokyo's Haneda Airport from 15 June 2026. This service will operate four times a week and will be operated using Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.
The new Mumbai-Tokyo service will complement the airline's existing Delhi-Tokyo Haneda flights, strengthening overall connectivity between India and Japan. Haneda Airport is one of Tokyo's main international gateways and offers faster access to the city compared with several other airports serving the region.
Air India has already increased its presence on the Japan route in recent months. Its Delhi-Tokyo Haneda service was expanded from four weekly flights to daily operations, reflecting growing passenger demand between the two countries. The airline has also upgraded aircraft on this route to Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, which include premium economy cabins and updated interiors.
Passengers travelling on these aircraft have access to improved onboard facilities such as upgraded seating, enhanced inflight entertainment systems, Wi-Fi connectivity on select aircraft and revised meal services as part of the airline's ongoing product improvements.
Connectivity beyond Japan is also supported through Air India's codeshare partnership with All Nippon Airways, which allows passengers to access additional destinations within Japan through Tokyo.
The expansion comes as Air India continues to strengthen its international network following its acquisition by the Tata Group. Over the past few years, the airline has been working on expanding routes, modernising its fleet and upgrading cabins as part of a large transformation plan aimed at improving services and rebuilding its global network.
Travel demand between India and several Asian countries has grown steadily in recent years due to rising tourism, business exchanges and increasing student travel. Vietnam has become a popular destination for Indian tourists, while Japan continues to see strong demand for both business and leisure travel.
The addition of direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai is expected to improve travel options for passengers and support growing economic and tourism links between India and these Asian markets.
