Synopsis

KPMG International leaders met with Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee to discuss implementing global standards in contract management and infrastructure governance across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The talks focused on risk management, procurement reforms, dispute avoidance, and digital performance monitoring to reduce delays and cost overruns. Separately, Dr. Mukherjee hosted the Russian Consul General, who presented a draft cooperation program covering urban mobility, healthcare, education, trade, and cultural exchange, while inviting MMRDA to upcoming smart city forums. These initiatives aim to strengthen international collaboration, enhance urban project delivery, and expand economic and innovation opportunities for the region.

Senior leaders from KPMG International, including Ms. Lisa Kelvey, Global Head of Infrastructure and Transport, and Mr. Suneel Vora, Head of Major Projects Advisory, KPMG India, recently met with Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA. The discussion centred on adopting internationally benchmarked frameworks for contract management and infrastructure governance across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The deliberations explored enhancing contract structuring, risk allocation, procurement reforms, dispute avoidance, and performance monitoring. The aim is to minimise project delays, control cost overruns, and accelerate execution by leveraging digital oversight and strong governance mechanisms. Dr. Mukherjee noted that embedding global standards throughout the project lifecycle would increase transparency, competitiveness, fiscal discipline, and ensure timely delivery of transformative regional initiatives.

In a separate engagement, Dr. Mukherjee received Mr. Ivan Fetisov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Mumbai, along with his delegation, at the MMRDA Headquarters in Bandra-Kurla Complex. The delegation presented a draft Cooperation Program between the Government of Moscow and MMRDA, outlining potential collaboration in urban mobility, digital governance, trade and innovation, healthcare, education, environmental sustainability, and cultural exchange. They also extended an invitation for MMRDA to participate in the 11th Smart Cities India Expo 2026 and the III Smart Cities Forum in New Delhi later this month.

Dr. Mukherjee highlighted that a structured Mumbai Moscow partnership could open opportunities in tourism, skill development, transport innovation, medical education, and investment, reinforcing India Russia relations at the metropolitan level.
