Under the plan, Sectors 27, 28, 36, 40, 40-A, 41-A and 42 will be developed across roughly 1,000 acres, encompassing parts of Ambala Cantt and adjoining villages such as Ghasitpur, Buhawa, Shahpur and Brahman Majra. The proposed sectors are expected to incorporate a mix of residential, commercial and industrial zones, as well as open spaces, improved transport connectivity and communication infrastructure, in line with contemporary urban planning standards.

Officials indicated that the move seeks to expand the city's boundaries and infrastructure base, addressing both population growth and economic potential. The development is closely aligned with the ongoing construction of the Ambala Ring Road, which the minister has previously cited as a catalyst for coordinated urban expansion along its corridor. The ring road is expected to enhance connectivity and unlock land for development, enabling the new sectors to integrate seamlessly with existing urban fabric.

To facilitate land acquisition and ensure transparency in the expansion process, the state government has launched an e-Bhoomi portal, through which landowners can voluntarily offer land for development. Applications for land aggregation are open until 30 April 2026, and the government has assured fair compensation mechanisms for participating landowners.

The proposed sectoral expansion reflects the state's broader strategy to drive decentralised growth and accommodate rising demand for housing, commercial space and industrial facilities beyond traditional urban cores.
