The first phase of the Indore Pithampur Economic Corridor project a key infrastructure initiative aimed at reinforcing central India's manufacturing and industrial hub is scheduled to commence with an estimated investment of over INR 250 crore, officials said in the past week. The corridor, spanning 19.60 km between Indore and the industrial belt of Pithampur in Madhya Pradesh, forms part of a larger INR 2,500 crore development plan intended to enhance industrial infrastructure, logistics connectivity and utility services in one of the country's most significant production clusters. Phase I will focus on road network upgrades, drainage systems and electricity infrastructure, including improved linkages to the Super Corridor. The project is expected to streamline freight movement, reduce travel time and attract new industrial and commercial investment, further consolidating the region's position as a central Indian manufacturing node.
The Indore Pithampur Economic Corridor, a strategic infrastructure project designed to strengthen one of central India's largest industrial belts, is moving into its first phase of implementation with the commencement of preliminary works backed by an investment of more than INR 250 crore, according to industry sources and official releases in the past week.
The corridor stretches approximately 19.60 km between Indore and the industrial township of Pithampur in Madhya Pradesh, an area that serves as a significant manufacturing and export hub encompassing sectors such as automotive, engineering, pharmaceuticals and logistics. It is part of a broader INR 2,500 crore infrastructure framework aimed at upgrading core industrial infrastructure, improving connectivity and enhancing utility services to support future industrial growth.
Phase I of the project, which will be rolled out over the coming months, will focus on development of critical road networks linking the corridor to the Super Corridor a high-capacity arterial route designed to facilitate movement of goods and raw materials. In addition to road construction, the initial phase will include investments in improved drainage systems, reliable electricity infrastructure and ancillary facilities necessary to support industrial operations.
Officials involved in planning said the corridor is expected to reduce travel times for freight traffic between manufacturing clusters, enhance logistical efficiency and support the creation of plug-and-play industrial zones along the alignment. Plans envisage an industrial zone extending 3-5 km on either side of the corridor, with provision for future residential and commercial development to support workers and enterprises in the region.
The corridor follows a land pooling model, with the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation having secured around 300 hectares of land, returning nearly 60 per cent to landowners for industrial or commercial use, a structure designed to balance land acquisition challenges and community interests while facilitating scalable growth.
The Indore Pithampur corridor complements existing and planned infrastructure in the Indore region, including logistics parks and industrial estates, which together enhance the region's appeal for investment. By improving connectivity to national highways and supporting freight movement, the project is expected to play a significant role in advancing central India's manufacturing competitiveness and attracting further industrial investment.
