The Telangana High Court has stayed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's attempt to acquire multiple private properties in the Jubilee Hills area for a road development project. The proposed acquisition was linked to improving connectivity between Road No. 45 T-Junction and Durgam Cheruvu. Property owners challenged the process, stating that their objections were not properly considered and that statutory procedures were not followed. The court observed procedural gaps in notifications and compliance requirements, leading to an interim halt. The matter is set for further hearing, while the stay provides temporary relief to affected owners.
The Telangana High Court has stayed the acquisition process initiated by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for several private properties located in Jubilee Hills, a prime residential locality in Hyderabad. The civic body had planned the acquisition as part of a road expansion project intended to improve connectivity between Road No. 45 T-Junction and Durgam Cheruvu.
The court issued an interim order halting further proceedings, including any steps related to dispossession of the identified properties. The decision came after property owners approached the court challenging the acquisition notices issued by the authorities. They argued that their objections were not properly addressed and that the process did not comply with the required legal and procedural framework governing land acquisition.
During the review, the court observed concerns regarding the manner in which notifications were issued and published. It also noted gaps in adherence to statutory requirements, including clarity on public notice procedures and consideration of objections raised by affected parties. These observations led the court to pause the acquisition process until further examination of the case is completed.
The acquisition is part of GHMC's broader infrastructure planning efforts aimed at easing traffic congestion in densely populated urban areas. However, land acquisition in such high-value locations often involves disputes due to ownership concerns and procedural sensitivities. In this case, the properties under consideration are situated in a well-developed neighbourhood, which has added complexity to the acquisition process.
With the interim stay in place, the civic authority is expected to present detailed documentation and justification in the upcoming hearings. The court will further examine whether the acquisition process followed the required legal steps before taking a final view on the matter.
