Karnataka Real Estate Regulatory Authority has recorded 12,772 complaints, placing Karnataka among the top four states in India for RERA filings. The data reflects both strong homebuyer awareness and active usage of the regulatory mechanism for dispute resolution. A significant portion of the cases has already been resolved, indicating steady disposal of complaints. However, the rising numbers also point to ongoing concerns in the real estate sector, including project delays, compliance gaps, and execution challenges that continue to affect buyers and developers across the state.
Karnataka Real Estate Regulatory Authority has seen a steady rise in complaint registrations since the implementation of the RERA framework, with the total number of cases reaching 12,772. This places the state among the leading regions in the country in terms of RERA-related disputes, reflecting both the scale of real estate activity and the increasing reliance on formal grievance redressal systems by homebuyers.
The complaint data indicates that a large number of buyers have approached the authority seeking remedies related to delays in possession, refund issues, and non-compliance by developers. These grievances highlight persistent operational and execution challenges within ongoing and completed real estate projects across urban centres in the state.
A notable aspect of the data is that a majority of the complaints have already been resolved. This suggests that the authority has been actively processing cases and issuing orders aimed at addressing buyer concerns. The disposal of complaints also indicates that the regulatory mechanism is being utilised effectively to a considerable extent, even as new cases continue to be added.
The growing volume of complaints is also linked to improved awareness among homebuyers regarding their rights under the regulatory framework established by the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act.
