The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has demolished 20 residential houses and four shops in the Narol area to facilitate the development of an 18-metre-wide road under Town Planning Scheme 60. The action, carried out after prior notices to occupants, cleared approximately 3,510 square metres of land required for a 195-metre road stretch. Officials stated that the structures were obstructing the approved road alignment and had not been voluntarily removed despite warnings. The demolition was executed in the presence of police to ensure compliance and maintain order. The move forms part of the city's broader infrastructure push aimed at improving urban mobility and implementing planned development layouts across emerging corridors in Ahmedabad.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has undertaken a targeted demolition drive in the Narol locality to advance a planned road widening project, removing structures that encroached upon designated public land. The operation, carried out by the estate department of the civic body's South Zone, resulted in the demolition of 20 houses and four commercial units that were found to be obstructing an approved infrastructure corridor.
The clearance was part of efforts to implement Town Planning Scheme 60, under which an 18-metre-wide road is being developed to improve connectivity within the area. Officials indicated that, in addition to the primary structures, other encroachments such as platforms and extensions within the road alignment were also removed during the exercise. The action enabled the release of around 3,510 square metres of land, paving the way for the construction of a nearly 195-metre-long road segment.
Authorities had issued notices to occupants in advance, directing them to vacate or dismantle unauthorised structures voluntarily. However, following non-compliance, the civic body proceeded with enforcement measures. The demolition was conducted under police supervision to ensure the operation was carried out without disruption and in accordance with established procedures.
The initiative reflects the municipal corporation's ongoing focus on executing approved urban planning schemes and addressing bottlenecks caused by unauthorised developments. Road widening projects such as this are considered essential to easing congestion, improving intra-city connectivity, and supporting future real estate development in peripheral and industrial zones like Narol.
