Indore Metro has completed high-speed trials at 80 kmph on an extended stretch, marking a key step before expanding passenger operations. The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) carried out detailed inspections of stations, systems, and safety mechanisms, including emergency braking and signalling checks. With inspections now complete, the project is awaiting the final No Objection Certificate. Once approved, the operational corridor will increase from 6 km to around 17.5 km, improving connectivity between the airport zone and major commercial areas such as Vijay Nagar.
Indore Metro has completed high-speed trial runs at a maximum speed of 80 kmph on the extended stretch between Super Corridor and Radisson Square, bringing the project closer to the next phase of operations. This trial forms part of the final safety validation process required before opening the expanded section to the public.
The trials were conducted under the supervision of the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), who carried out a detailed inspection of both the rolling stock and track systems. During the exercise, trains were tested at peak operational speed and subjected to emergency braking to check response time, stability, and overall safety performance. These tests are necessary to ensure that the system performs reliably under real operating conditions.
A multi-day inspection was completed covering key stations such as Meghdoot, Vijay Nagar, and Radisson Square. The inspection included a review of passenger-related infrastructure such as entry and exit gates, lifts, escalators, ticketing areas, and parking facilities. Special attention was given to accessibility features for differently-abled passengers to ensure compliance with safety and convenience standards.
Apart from station infrastructure, the CMRS team examined operational systems including signalling, train control systems, and communication networks. The metro depot and the Operations Control Centre were also reviewed to check coordination and system integration. In addition, the dedicated power supply system, including the electric substation near MR-10, was inspected to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Officials indicated that a few minor observations were noted during the inspection, which are being addressed. Once these points are resolved, the final No Objection Certificate from the CMRS will be issued. This approval is the last step before starting passenger services on the extended route.
At present, Indore Metro is operational on a limited 6 km stretch between Gandhi Nagar and Super Corridor. The upcoming expansion will increase the operational length to about 17.5 km, connecting the airport area with dense commercial and residential locations such as Vijay Nagar and Radisson Square. This extension is expected to improve overall usability of the network.
Earlier, limited ridership was observed due to the initial stretch passing through relatively less populated areas. With the line now reaching busier zones, authorities expect an increase in daily commuters and better utilisation of the metro system. The project is being developed in phases, with future extensions planned to cover more parts of the city and strengthen urban connectivity.
