The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) has intensified its efforts against unauthorised construction in the Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Nagar colony and nearby residential areas. Notices have been issued to 43 property owners for converting residential plots into commercial structures like shops and medical facilities without proper approvals. The authority has begun cancelling sanctioned building plans and is considering stricter actions, including property sealing and demolition. Residents and buyers are urged to verify approvals on the official website before purchasing property to avoid violations and legal issues.
The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) has launched strict measures against illegal construction in Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Nagar colony and surrounding residential zones. A total of 43 property owners have been served notices for violating approved building plans. The action comes after multiple complaints from residents about unauthorised commercial structures being developed in residential areas, particularly along South City and Ayali Khurd roads. Many plots have been converted into shops and medical facilities, including the Mahal Hospital, without obtaining the required government approvals.
Authorities reported that these unauthorised constructions have caused traffic congestion and parking shortages, affecting the quality of living in these areas. Despite earlier warnings, some property owners continued work on their sites, which prompted GLADA to start cancelling the sanctioned building plans for the violating properties. The agency, led by Chief Administrator Vikas Hira, has warned that stricter measures such as sealing of properties and demolition drives will follow to control unplanned development in the Ludhiana district.
GLADA emphasised that all construction must adhere strictly to sanctioned layouts. The authority advised prospective buyers to verify colony credentials and approval status on the official website before making property purchases. Officials reiterated a zero-tolerance approach to unauthorised developments, describing the unchecked proliferation of commercial buildings in residential zones as a threat to urban infrastructure and public convenience. Previous enforcement efforts in adjacent South City areas had also targeted similar violations, reinforcing GLADA's commitment to controlling illegal construction citywide.
Residents have welcomed the enforcement measures, noting that unauthorised development had put pressure on existing infrastructure and diminished living standards. GLADA continues to monitor construction activity closely and has stated that non-compliance will lead to legal proceedings, property sealing, or demolition if necessary. Buyers and developers are being urged to maintain transparency and follow regulatory approvals to ensure the integrity of residential neighbourhoods.
