Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo recently reviewed a detailed roadmap for the project. The plan aims to strengthen the technology ecosystem in the Union Territory, create employment opportunities for young professionals, and build institutional capacity to address future technological challenges.
Officials indicated that the initiative would begin with the establishment of an innovation and research park within the IIT Jammu campus, which will later expand to other locations across the Union Territory. The overall development will be carried out in phases.
Under Phase I, operations of the IT and innovation park are expected to begin between May and June 2026. Around 50,000 square feet of existing built-up space within the IIT campus will be upgraded to start initial operations. This step is intended to allow the project to commence quickly using available infrastructure.
Phase II will involve the construction of about 120,000 square feet of additional infrastructure. Work for this phase is expected to begin in 2026, with completion targeted by 2028. The new infrastructure will support expanded technology activities, research facilities, and collaboration spaces for companies and institutions.
In Phase III, the IT Park will expand beyond the IIT campus to enable broader participation from technology companies and industries. Officials noted that this stage is expected to facilitate larger investments and strengthen technology-driven economic growth in the region.
Authorities have already identified land in the Kashmir division to support future expansion during the later phases of the project. Additional land is also proposed to be earmarked near the IIT Jammu campus for further development as the ecosystem grows.
The proposed Innovation Research Park, referred to as Phase-B at IIT Jammu, will have a built-up area of more than 11,000 square metres. The building will include multiple functional floors designed to accommodate innovation labs, technology companies, startups, and collaborative research spaces. Support facilities will also be developed to promote industry academia partnerships, incubation programmes, and technology development initiatives.
During the review meeting, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo highlighted the importance of technology in shaping the future economy. He indicated that the region must focus on building future-ready human resources, infrastructure, and institutions to remain competitive in the evolving digital landscape.
He also pointed out that the project is expected to create new employment opportunities for young people, strengthen the startup ecosystem, and attract technology companies to the region.
