The Telangana government has distributed house site pattas and sanctioned homes under the Indiramma Housing Scheme to 412 families affected by demolitions on Bhoodan land in Velugumatla village in Khammam district. The beneficiaries were identified after a verification survey conducted following an eviction drive. Out of the total beneficiaries, 311 landless families will receive house sites and homes in Velugumatla, while 101 families will construct houses in their native villages. The government also plans to build a planned residential colony with civic amenities and complete the housing construction by December 9.
The Telangana government has distributed house site pattas and sanctioned homes under the Indiramma Housing Scheme to 412 families affected by the demolition of houses on Bhoodan land in Velugumatla village in Khammam district. The pattas and sanction letters were handed over during a programme organised at the district collectorate in the presence of senior state ministers.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, along with ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Tummala Nageswara Rao, took part in the distribution of the land documents and housing approvals. The beneficiaries were identified after officials carried out verification and surveys following the demolition of structures that had been built on Bhoodan land in the area.
According to the state government, 412 families were found eligible to receive support under the rehabilitation initiative. Out of them, 311 landless families were allotted house site pattas in Velugumatla and were also sanctioned houses under the Indiramma housing programme. The remaining 101 families already have land in their native villages and were therefore issued permission letters to construct houses there under the same scheme.
Officials said the government also plans to develop a planned residential colony for the beneficiaries who will be resettled in Velugumatla. The proposed colony will include basic civic infrastructure such as internal roads, electricity supply, drinking water facilities, drainage systems and other public amenities. Plans also include the construction of a hospital, a community hall and a shopping complex so that residents have access to essential services within the locality.
Authorities stated that construction work for the houses will begin soon and the government has set a target to complete the project by December 9. Once the houses are ready, beneficiaries are expected to move into their new homes and the state government plans to organise house-warming ceremonies for the families.
After allocating land for the housing colony, the remaining 16 acres in the Velugumatla area will be used for public infrastructure. Officials said the land will be utilised to build a Telangana Public School and other government educational institutions to serve residents of the surrounding areas.
The housing initiative follows an eviction drive in Velugumatla where several houses constructed on Bhoodan land were demolished by authorities. The demolition had left many families without shelter and triggered political criticism and public debate. Opposition parties had claimed that more than 700 families were affected by the drive, while the government maintained that only verified eligible families would be considered for rehabilitation benefits.
During the programme, the deputy chief minister said the state government aimed to ensure that poor families live with legal ownership and proper housing. He also stated that in the past some middlemen had collected money from residents by promising land or housing without providing any legal documents or facilities. The government, according to him, intervened to stop such practices and provide proper housing support to eligible families.
The Indiramma Housing Scheme is one of the state government's major welfare programmes focused on providing permanent housing for economically weaker sections. Under the scheme, the government has planned to build about 4.5 lakh houses across Telangana with an estimated allocation of around INR 22,500 crore. The programme aims to provide secure housing along with basic infrastructure in both rural and urban areas of the state.
