Mumbai's civic administration is moving forward with a plan to build distinctive entry arches at major entry points, complemented by practical amenities. The mayor recently visited Vashi, Airoli, and Mulund entry points to review progress and fast-track planning. The arches will be accompanied by landscaped parks, parking spaces, air conditioned restrooms, and designated stalls for local entrepreneurs and community groups. Additionally, a transport and commercial hub is being planned at the former Dahisar octroi site, integrating bus services, retail spaces, and hotels to improve connectivity and revenue generation.
Mumbai's civic body is preparing to develop entry points into the city with well planned arches, complemented by parks, parking, and other public facilities. The mayor recently inspected entry points at Vashi, Airoli, and Mulund to assess the design and progress, emphasizing the need for functional as well as aesthetic planning. These gateways are intended to provide a welcoming impression while also serving practical needs.
The expanded design includes landscaped green spaces, seating areas, and dedicated parking for commuters. Air conditioned restrooms for men and women will be installed, while spaces will be set aside for local women's self help groups, Koli community vendors, and small entrepreneurs. Civic officials noted that this approach combines urban design with community participation, ensuring that these entry points are both visually appealing and useful for residents and visitors.
The plan also considers technology and sustainability, with proposals for digital signage and the potential use of renewable energy sources. The mayor has directed coordinated action between different civic departments, with upcoming joint meetings to ensure timely execution. Officials have emphasized that planning must align with the city's cultural and economic identity while providing daily convenience for commuters.
Alongside the arches, the civic administration is developing a transport and commercial hub at the former Dahisar octroi site. The hub will cater to interstate buses, integrate with local bus networks and metro lines, and include recreational, retail, and hospitality facilities such as banquet halls and hotels. Officials expect the hub to improve commuter experience, boost commercial activity, and generate sustainable revenue for the city.
The project also focuses on long-term utility, with landscaped areas and public facilities designed for high footfall, ensuring that the infrastructure supports both daily commuters and visitors. Officials have indicated that integrating vendor spaces and community stalls will enhance local economic activity while maintaining clean and organized surroundings.
