Persimmon sees strong 2026 growth, shares jump over 11%

Synopsis

British homebuilder Persimmon has projected a strong performance for 2026, expecting both higher profits and increased home deliveries, placing it at the top end of market estimates. The company reported pre-tax profits of 445.6 million pounds for 2025, surpassing expectations, with early-year sales showing continued strength. Its vertical integration, including in-house production of bricks, tiles, and timber frames, has protected it from cost pressures affecting competitors. Analysts highlighted Persimmon's strategic execution as a reason for its strong positioning despite sector-wide challenges and geopolitical uncertainties.

Persimmon has announced a positive outlook for 2026, forecasting home deliveries and profits at the higher range of market expectations. The company expects underlying operating profit to reach near the upper end of analyst estimates, around 486 million to 517 million pounds (USD 593-630 million), in contrast to competitors like Taylor Wimpey and Vistry, which have reported weaker demand and margin pressures.

CEO Dean Finch noted that the company's forecast assumes that the impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East can be managed. He added that sales in the early weeks of the year have been strong, and the build-to-rent sector is showing signs of recovery after a slowdown in late 2025.

For the full year of 2025, Persimmon achieved an underlying pre-tax profit of 445.6 million pounds, exceeding market expectations. Following the announcement, shares surged more than 11%, marking the best trading day since April 2020 if gains hold.

Persimmon has managed cost pressures more effectively than its rivals due to its vertical integration, producing bricks, tiles, and timber frames in-house. This strategy has helped shield the company from inflationary pressures impacting other builders. Analysts, including RBC Capital Markets' Anthony Codling, noted that Persimmon's results reflect its strategic execution, with the right initiatives in the right locations at the right time.

The company plans to deliver between 12,000 and 12,500 homes in 2026. It will continue leveraging marketing strategies and customer incentives that contributed to stronger-than-expected sales in 2025. While the potential effect of current uncertainties on construction costs remains unclear, Finch stated that existing supplier agreements and accelerated production levels should limit any significant impact this year.
