Indian Railways has started a redevelopment programme for 12 stations along the Prayagraj Junction Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Junction corridor, aimed at improving passenger experience and operational efficiency. The initiative coincides with the construction of a third railway line designed for speeds up to 160 km/h. Redevelopment plans include modern station buildings, platforms dedicated to the third line, dual-entry access points, and upgraded foot over bridges. Early work at Karchana and Mirzapur stations, including new buildings and bridges, reflects progress on this significant corridor enhancement.

Indian Railways has launched a redevelopment plan covering 12 stations on the Prayagraj Junction Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Junction corridor. This initiative is part of a larger effort to strengthen rail infrastructure, improve passenger convenience, and support higher-speed train operations once the third railway line becomes fully functional. The corridor is being upgraded to accommodate speeds of up to 160 km/h, which will enhance efficiency and reduce travel times.


The redevelopment will include modern station buildings equipped with better waiting areas, ticketing facilities, and passenger amenities. Each station will have new platforms designed to handle the upcoming third line, ensuring smoother train movements and reduced congestion. The plan also focuses on dual-entry access points at stations, allowing passengers to enter or exit from either side, which will ease crowd management, especially during peak travel hours.

Existing foot over bridges (FOBs) will be upgraded or widened where needed, enhancing safety and passenger flow. The stations selected for this project include Bheerpur, Meja Road, Unchdeeh, Manda Road, Jigna, Gaipura, Birohi, Sipura, Pahara, Dagmagpur, Kailhat, and Narayanpur Bazar. These upgrades aim to prepare the corridor for semi-high-speed operations while supporting increased train frequency and improved service quality.

Construction progress is already visible at Karchana and Mirzapur, where new station buildings and modern foot over bridges have been completed. These early developments provide a model for the remaining stations, ensuring uniformity and consistency in design and passenger experience. Indian Railways is coordinating this work with track strengthening, signalling upgrades, and electrification to maximise the benefits of the redevelopment.

This project is part of Indian Railways broader modernisation strategy, which includes capacity expansion, improved passenger facilities, and faster, more reliable services across key routes. By upgrading infrastructure along the Prayagraj DDU corridor, the railways are enhancing both operational efficiency and the overall travel experience for passengers on one of the region's important rail corridors.
