Cochin International Airport Ltd has commissioned the first phase of its Aero Park at Nedumbassery, marking a shift towards building an integrated aviation services hub alongside passenger operations. Spread across 36 acres, the initial development involves infrastructure investment of about INR 101 crore and is expected to generate nearly 5,000 jobs through direct and indirect employment. The phase brings together aircraft maintenance, training, business facilities and specialised safety infrastructure, with further expansion planned through an IT Park and an Aero City in the coming phases.
Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) has operationalised the first phase of its Aero Park, reinforcing its strategy to develop aviation-linked commercial and technical infrastructure around the airport. The project is designed to support a wide range of aviation services while creating employment and strengthening Kochi's position as a regional aviation hub.
The first phase spans around 36 acres and has seen infrastructure spending of approximately INR 101 crore. Facilities developed include aircraft maintenance and parking areas, engine storage spaces, training classrooms and operational support buildings. These assets are positioned to cater to airlines, maintenance operators and training institutions that require proximity to active airport operations.
Employment generation remains a central objective of the Aero Park. CIAL has indicated that the project could create around 2,000 direct jobs, with indirect employment estimated at nearly three times that number across services, logistics and support functions. This aligns with the airport operator's earlier efforts to diversify revenue streams beyond aeronautical income.
Alongside core aviation facilities, the first phase also includes the Cochin International Aviation Services Ltd Business Centre, developed at a cost of about INR 30 crore, aimed at housing aviation-related offices and service providers. Another key addition is a large aviation breathing apparatus training gallery for firefighters, built at an investment of around INR 2 crore, which is intended to enhance safety training capacity.
Additional infrastructure linked to the Aero Park is at various stages of development. This includes a third aircraft hangar with an estimated cost of INR 45 crore, a pressure-fed firefighting facility valued at about INR 8 crore, and an underwater rescue training centre costing roughly INR 3 crore. The underwater rescue facility is being positioned as a first-of-its-kind installation at an Indian airport, focusing on emergency preparedness.
CIAL has outlined that future phases of the project will introduce an IT Park, followed by an Aero City that will integrate commercial, service and support functions around the airport. These expansions are expected to deepen the ecosystem effect and attract a broader range of aviation and allied businesses.
