Synopsis

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has undertaken demolition action against an unauthorised construction in the Turbhe division, where a fourth-floor RCC structure was being erected without prior approval. During a site inspection at a residential property in Sector 5, Sanpada village, civic officials found that construction measuring about 9.40 metres by 5 metres was underway in violation of planning norms. Despite the issuance of a notice under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, the work reportedly continued. Acting on senior-level directions, the civic body organised a demolition drive and removed the illegal structure. The operation was carried out under the supervision of senior officials, with police support and demolition equipment deployed. The corporation reiterated that enforcement against unauthorised constructions will be intensified across its jurisdiction.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has carried out demolition action against an unauthorised building activity detected within the Turbhe division of its jurisdiction, reinforcing its stance against violations of development control regulations.

According to civic officials, a site inspection was conducted at a residential property bearing house number 518 in Sector 5, Sanpada village, Navi Mumbai. During the inspection, it was observed that an RCC structure corresponding to a fourth floor (G+4) was under construction without obtaining the mandatory permissions from the planning authority. The unauthorised construction covered an area measuring approximately 9.40 metres by 5.0 metres.

Officials said that a notice had earlier been issued to the concerned property owners under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, directing them to stop the illegal construction. However, despite the statutory notice, the construction activity reportedly continued at the site, prompting the civic body to initiate enforcement action.

In response, the municipal corporation organised a demolition drive to remove the unauthorised structure. The illegal construction was dismantled by the civic authorities as part of this operation. The action was undertaken following the instructions of the municipal commissioner and under the guidance of the additional municipal commissioner and the deputy commissioner in charge of encroachment removal.

The demolition drive was executed under the direct supervision of the assistant commissioner of the Turbhe division, with the presence of junior engineering staff and other municipal officials. To ensure law and order during the operation, police personnel from the encroachment removal squad, along with security guards from the encroachment department, were deployed at the site.

For the execution of the demolition, the civic body utilised four electric hammers and engaged a team of ten labourers to dismantle the unauthorised RCC structure. Officials said the operation was carried out in a controlled manner to avoid any collateral damage to adjoining properties.

The municipal corporation stated that such enforcement drives form part of its ongoing campaign against unauthorised constructions across Navi Mumbai. It further indicated that action against illegal building activity will be intensified in the coming period, signalling a stricter approach towards violations of planning and development regulations within the civic limits.
