The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has recovered about 62 acres of land in Mathura district that had been encroached upon within the Heritage City and Raya Urban Centre project zones. As part of a demolition drive organised earlier this week, unauthorized structures including hotels, roadside eateries and informal colonies were demolished in villages such as Piprauli Khadar, Aruwa Khadar and Panigaon Khadar, freeing land officials valued at nearly INR 1,000 crore for its intended development use. The operation was led by YEIDA's officer on special duty with coordinated support from local police and administrative authorities, and was carried out peacefully. This action follows earlier enforcement efforts in the region and reflects the authority's ongoing campaign against illegal habitation and construction on land earmarked for planned infrastructure projects.
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has undertaken a significant enforcement action in Mathura district this week, reclaiming roughly 62 acres of land that had been illegally occupied within areas designated for the Heritage City and Raya Urban Centre projects. The recovered land, which authorities estimate to be worth around INR 1,000 crore, had been subject to encroachment by unauthorised construction and informal settlements that impeded planned development.
The demolition drive targeted unauthorised commercial and residential structures, including hotels and roadside eateries that had been built within core project limits in the villages of Piprauli Khadar, Aruwa Khadar and Panigaon Khadar. Teams working on the operation demolished these structures to clear the land for future infrastructure implementation. The action, which was conducted peacefully with the deployment of personnel from multiple local police stations and the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), was led by YEIDA's officer on special duty, with active support from the Mathura district administration and security agencies.
This enforcement follows other recent drives by the authority in the region. Earlier in the week, YEIDA officials reclaimed around 25 acres of land across its notified area, valued at approximately INR 400 crore. That operation included the removal of an unauthorised colony known as Green City in Dayanatpur village, and other illegal plots near access routes to the upcoming Noida International Airport project. The combined actions form part of a broader crackdown on encroachments that have proliferated as land values have risen in anticipation of major infrastructure developments.
Illegal occupation and unauthorised construction have been persistent issues in the canalised development corridor around the expressway and airport zones, with scammers and informal developers reportedly marketing unapproved plots and structures to buyers attracted by future growth prospects. YEIDA's recent reclamation drives seek to restore notified land to its planned use, ensuring that areas earmarked for strategic urban and economic projects remain free from illegal encumbrances. Authorities involved in the campaign have indicated that similar enforcement actions will continue across other project areas to uphold land use plans and deter further unauthorised occupation.
