Synopsis

Bidar railway station is set to have its upgraded passenger facilities operational from April under the central government's Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The redevelopment, taken up at an initial cost of around INR 24.3 crore, includes lifts, escalators, expanded platforms, improved waiting halls and better parking areas. The Secunderabad Railway Division has proposed revising the project cost to nearly INR 40 crore to accommodate additional works. Most structural work has been completed, while finishing activities are underway. The upgrade is part of Indian Railways broader plan to modernise key stations across the country.

Modernisation work at Bidar railway station is in its final stage, and upgraded passenger amenities are expected to be operational from April under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme of Indian Railways.

The redevelopment was initially sanctioned at around INR 25 crore, with actual works currently valued at approximately INR 24.3 crore. During the execution phase, the Secunderabad Railway Division proposed increasing the overall outlay to nearly INR 40 crore to accommodate additional improvements and expanded scope of work. A revised estimate has been sought from division officials.

Key infrastructure upgrades have been largely completed. These include installation of lifts and escalators, extension and resurfacing of platforms, enhanced platform shelters, and renovation of waiting halls and toilet facilities. The existing old station building has been refurbished, while a new departure hall has been constructed and is nearing completion.

Escalators and lifts on Platforms 1 and 2 have already been installed and are ready. Platform extension work, particularly on Platforms 2 and 3, is substantially complete, with surface finishing activities currently in progress. The aim is to improve passenger movement and reduce congestion during peak hours.

Parking facilities on both sides of the station premises have been upgraded. The circulating area for cars and two-wheelers is also being developed to ensure smoother entry and exit. Improved access and better internal layout are expected to enhance commuter convenience.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, launched in late 2022, focuses on phased redevelopment of railway stations across India. The scheme emphasises improved passenger amenities, better accessibility, upgraded fades, and enhanced station surroundings. Bidar is among several stations selected under this initiative for comprehensive improvement.

Railway officials have indicated that once the remaining finishing works are completed, the upgraded facilities will be opened to passengers from April. The redevelopment is expected to strengthen connectivity and provide improved infrastructure for travellers using the station.
