Societies in the Vastrapur locality of Ahmedabad have agreed to voluntarily surrender portions of their land to facilitate planned road widening and area development works, civic officials said. The decision follows meetings between society representatives and urban development authorities, where residents acknowledged that the expansion of the thoroughfare would improve traffic flow and accessibility. According to municipal officials, the existing road network in Vastrapur a key neighbourhood known for its residential enclaves and proximity to Vastrapur Lake has been under pressure from increasing traffic volumes. Narrow carriageways and limited infrastructure capacity have contributed to congestion, especially during peak hours. To address these challenges and enhance connectivity, authorities had proposed widening select stretches of the thoroughfare, which would require additional land along defined road alignments.
Representatives of multiple housing societies in the area reviewed the proposals and engaged in discussions with officials to understand the implications. Following these talks, the societies agreed to voluntarily surrender small portions of their land adjacent to the current road alignments. The surrendered land will enable the extension of carriageways, better pedestrian pathways and improved utility corridors, municipal engineers said.
