Synopsis

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has submitted a formal proposal to the Uttar Pradesh government for the development of Japan City and Singapore City along the Yamuna Expressway corridor. The proposal, sent earlier this week, confirms that land parcels have been identified and acquisition plans prepared within YEIDA's jurisdiction. The initiative follows preparations linked to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's proposed official visit to Japan and Singapore, after which the authority was asked to earmark suitable land for the two projects. Sectors 5A and 7 in Greater Noida have been identified for the developments, each spanning around 500 acres. Both sectors are designated as multi-purpose industrial zones, with a majority of land reserved for industrial use, and are proposed to be developed as integrated industrial townships.

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority has taken a key step towards advancing international industrial collaboration by proposing the development of Japan City and Singapore City along the Yamuna Expressway. According to officials, the proposal was dispatched to the state's Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner earlier this week, outlining the availability of land and preparedness on acquisition for both projects.

YEIDA chief executive officer R K Singh said that the authority has already identified suitable land parcels within its notified area and has prepared a land acquisition plan to facilitate timely development once approvals are secured. The move is linked to the Uttar Pradesh government's broader strategy of attracting foreign investment and strengthening economic ties with global partners.

The proposal has gained momentum in the backdrop of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's proposed visit to Japan and Singapore. In preparation for the visit, YEIDA was directed to earmark land that could be showcased for dedicated industrial and investment-focused townships aligned with the interests of investors from the two countries. The authority has since shortlisted Sector 5A and Sector 7 in Greater Noida for the developments.

Under YEIDA's approved master plan, both sectors fall under multi-purpose industrial zones, with a minimum of 70 per cent of the land mandated for industrial activities. Officials said this zoning allows flexibility for manufacturing, allied services, logistics and supporting infrastructure, while also enabling integrated planning.

As per the proposal, around 500 acres in Sector 5A have been earmarked for Japan City, while another 500 acres in Sector 7 have been proposed for Singapore City. YEIDA has indicated that both locations can be developed as integrated industrial townships, combining industrial plots with supporting urban infrastructure.

The Yamuna Expressway corridor has been positioned as a strategic growth belt, supported by regional connectivity and proximity to Greater Noida. Officials believe that the proposed townships could enhance the corridor's attractiveness for overseas investors and reinforce Uttar Pradesh's push to develop globally competitive industrial clusters. Final approvals and timelines will depend on the state government's review of the proposal and subsequent policy clearances.
