Synopsis

Waaree Energies will establish India's largest integrated lithium-ion battery Gigafactory in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of INR 8,175 crore. Located at Rambilli in Anakapalli district, the 16 GWh facility will cover advanced cell manufacturing, battery pack assembly and large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The project has received in-principle approval from the Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board and is expected to create around 3,000 direct jobs. The plant will strengthen domestic battery manufacturing, reduce import dependence and support renewable energy, electric mobility and grid stability. Backed by the state's Integrated Clean Energy Policy, Andhra Pradesh is emerging as a major clean-energy manufacturing hub.

In a significant development for India's clean-energy manufacturing sector, Waaree Energies will set up the country's largest integrated lithium-ion battery Gigafactory in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of INR 8,175 crore.

The greenfield project will be located at Rambilli in Anakapalli district and is expected to generate around 3,000 direct jobs. The facility will have a production capacity of 16 GWh and will cover the entire battery value chain, including advanced cell manufacturing, battery pack assembly and large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

The proposal has received in-principle approval from the Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board, chaired by Chief Minister Shri N Chandrababu Naidu. The approval marks a major step in expanding the state's clean-technology manufacturing base.

Welcoming the investment, Nara Lokesh said the project represents an important milestone in Andhra Pradesh's clean-energy roadmap. He stated that Waaree's Gigafactory will play a key role in reducing India's dependence on battery imports while strengthening domestic manufacturing in a strategic industry.

The project aligns with the state government's broader plan to develop a fully integrated clean-energy ecosystem. Andhra Pradesh has already attracted investments in renewable power generation and solar equipment manufacturing. The Waaree battery plant adds advanced energy storage manufacturing to that ecosystem, supporting backward integration within the sector.

Large-scale battery production is essential to support renewable energy growth, electric mobility expansion and grid stability. Energy storage systems help balance power supply and demand, especially as solar and wind capacity increase across India. The Gigafactory is expected to contribute to building domestic capability in a sector that is critical for long-term energy security.

Under its Integrated Clean Energy Policy, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself as a preferred destination for next-generation manufacturing. The state offers policy support, industrial infrastructure and faster project clearances to attract large-scale investments.

With the establishment of the 16 GWh lithium-ion battery plant, Rambilli in Anakapalli district is set to become a key node in India's energy storage manufacturing landscape. The project further strengthens Andhra Pradesh's role in supporting India's clean-energy transition and expanding domestic manufacturing capacity in advanced technologies.
