Jarnail Singh Bajwa, the managing director of Bajwa Developers, has been arrested by the Crime Investigating Agency (CIA) of Mohali police on charges of allegedly cheating customers. This arrest follows a complaint by a customer who accused Bajwa of engaging in fraudulent activities related to the sale of a plot in Kharar, Punjab. The customer alleged that despite making full payment, Bajwa failed to deliver the promised plot and engaged in misleading practices. Bajwa had faced legal troubles in the past, including arrests and being declared a proclaimed offender in cheque bounce cases. Customers who have invested in Bajwa Developers' projects will be closely watching the legal proceedings.
The managing director of Bajwa Developers, Jarnail Singh Bajwa, who had faced legal troubles in the past, found himself behind bars once again. This time, he was arrested by the Crime Investigating Agency (CIA) of Mohali police on charges of allegedly cheating customers.
Bajwa's legal woes date back several years. In March 2022, he and his son were arrested but released on bail after a few months. Jarnail Singh Bajwa, known for his involvement in projects like Sunny Enclave and other housing societies in Kharar, was also arrested in a cheque bounce case in 2020. In addition, he had been declared a proclaimed offender by the court.
The recent arrest came following a complaint filed by Sanjeev Sharma, a resident of Sector 9, Pocket-1 Dwarka, New Delhi. Mr. Sharma accused Jarnail Singh Bajwa, MD of Bajwa Developers Kharar, Punjab, of engaging in fraudulent activities related to the sale of a 250-square-yard plot in Jandpur, Sunny Enclave, a township in Kharar.
According to Mr. Sharma, an agreement for the sale deed was executed between him and Jarnail Singh Bajwa on May 11, 2011, with a total sale value of INR 31,99,625. Despite receiving full payment on May 1, 2012, Bajwa failed to deliver the promised plot. Mr. Sharma alleged that whenever he visited Bajwa's office, he was shown an undeveloped plot without a designated number, and promises of possession were consistently unfulfilled.
Sanjeev Sharma further claimed that Bajwa and his team, including Baldev Singh and other officials, deliberately misled him with the intention of profiting from his payments. Adding to the list of alleged wrongdoings, Mr. Sharma revealed that during a visit to Bajwa's office on July 29, 2020, his original agreement documents and the transfer fee receipt of INR 8,000 were confiscated. In their place, a photocopy of the agreement and receipt, signed as "original received" and stamped, were provided. Sanjeev Sharma argued that Bajwa and his staff were aware from the beginning that the land under the agreement was not approved by the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) and was agricultural land owned by villagers.
This arrest comes seven months after Jarnail Singh Bajwa was declared a proclaimed offender by a local court due to six cheque bounce cases totaling INR 1.94 crore, filed by Naseeb Kaur, a resident of Kharar, who had sold approximately 12 kanals of land to Bajwa's firm.
As the investigation unfolds, customers who have invested in projects associated with Bajwa Developers will be closely monitoring the legal proceedings, hoping for a resolution to their long-standing grievances.
