Synopsis

Noida Metro Rail Corporation has floated a tender to lease nearly 2,985 square metres of space for kiosks and commercial outlets at Sector 83 metro station on the Aqua Line. The reserve licence fee has been set at INR 205 per square metre. The spaces, located across concourse and platform levels, will have dual access for commuters and external visitors. The initiative is aimed at improving passenger amenities and boosting non-fare revenue, as NMRC continues efforts to strengthen the financial sustainability of the Aqua Line.

Noida Metro Rail Corporation has invited bids to develop kiosks and small commercial outlets at Sector 83 metro station on the Aqua Line, continuing its push to expand non-fare revenue streams. The tender covers around 2,985 square metres of space within the station premises, spread across the concourse and platform levels. NMRC has fixed a reserve licence fee of INR 205 per square metre, according to officials familiar with the plan.

Of the total area offered, about 610 square metres is located on the first floor, while 845 square metres and 1,530 square metres are available on the platform levels. The designated spaces have been planned with dual access, allowing entry both from outside the station and from within the paid area. This design is intended to attract not only metro users but also nearby residents and office-goers, thereby improving commercial viability.

NMRC has indicated that the kiosks are meant to provide daily-use and commuter-oriented services, including small retail and convenience offerings, without disrupting passenger movement. The authority is seeking to optimise underutilised station areas while ensuring that commercial activity remains compatible with metro operations and safety norms.

The move is part of NMRC's wider effort to reduce dependence on farebox revenue. Since the Aqua Line began operations between Noida Sector 51 and Depot Station in Greater Noida, ridership has remained moderate, prompting the corporation to focus on alternative income sources such as station retail, advertising rights and property development. Similar commercial leasing initiatives have been rolled out at other stations in the past, with mixed but gradually improving response.

Operationally, the Aqua Line has been recording average daily ridership of over 63,000 passengers in recent months. Connectivity improvements are also underway, including the upcoming pedestrian link between Sector 51 and Sector 52 stations and the approved extension of the line towards Noida Sector 142, which is expected to improve access to office districts and support future passenger growth.
