KNR Constructions Limited has secured a road infrastructure contract worth INR 2,163.07 crore for developing a four-lane elevated corridor on the East Coast Road in Chennai. The project, awarded under the Hybrid Annuity Mode, covers a key stretch between Thiruvanmiyur and Uthandi and aims to ease congestion on one of the city's busiest coastal routes. The work includes a defined construction period followed by an operation phase, while the final concession agreement remains subject to a court decision.
KNR Constructions Limited has been declared the successful bidder for a four-lane elevated corridor project in Chennai, with a total contract value of INR 2,163.07 crore. The project involves the construction of an elevated road along the East Coast Road, covering the stretch from Thiruvanmiyur to Uthandi on State Highway-49. This section is among the most congested corridors in the city due to high daily commuter traffic and growing residential and commercial development along the coastline.
The project has been awarded under the Hybrid Annuity Mode, a model where project costs and risks are shared between the government authority and the developer. As per the terms, KNR Constructions will execute the construction works over a period of 1,095 days. After completion, the company will be responsible for operating the corridor for five years from the commercial operation date.
The elevated corridor is expected to improve traffic flow by separating through-traffic from local movement, reducing travel time on a stretch that frequently faces bottlenecks, especially during peak hours and holiday seasons. The project also aligns with broader efforts by state authorities to upgrade urban road infrastructure and improve connectivity along Chennai's southern coastal belt.
KNR Constructions informed stock exchanges that the signing of the final concession agreement is subject to the outcome of a writ appeal currently pending before the Madras High Court. The company clarified that the agreement will be executed only after the legal matter is resolved.
This contract adds to KNR Constructions existing portfolio of highway and urban road projects across India. The company has previously executed national and state highway works under various public-private partnership models, including HAM, which has become a preferred framework for large road projects in recent years.
