Synopsis

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified its action against unauthorised constructions by demolishing an illegal commercial shed in the Turbhe division. The operation was conducted under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde and supervised by senior civic officials from the Encroachment Department. The structure, erected at Unit No. 3, Plot No. 6, Sector 19C, Turbhe, was reportedly being used for commercial purposes despite the issuance of a statutory notice under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. Following non-compliance, the Corporation carried out a demolition drive with police protection and technical equipment. Officials have stated that similar enforcement actions will continue to ensure planned urban development and compliance with municipal regulations.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has carried out a decisive demolition drive in the Turbhe division as part of its ongoing campaign against unauthorised constructions. The action was undertaken by the Encroachment Department under the guidance of Additional Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad, following directions from Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde.

The enforcement operation targeted an unauthorised structure erected by the property holder of Hotel Visawa at Unit No. 3, Plot No. 6, Sector 19C, Turbhe, within the municipal limits. Civic authorities observed that a shed had been constructed in a common area and was being used for commercial activities without the requisite approvals from the Corporation.

A statutory notice had previously been issued under the provisions of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, directing the concerned party to remove the unauthorised construction. However, as the commercial use of the shed continued despite the notice, the Corporation initiated demolition proceedings in accordance with the law.

The demolition drive was organised by the Turbhe ward office. Assistant Commissioner Sagar More, Junior Engineer Vinod Ambre and other municipal officers and staff were present to supervise the operation. Adequate security arrangements were made, with police officers and personnel from the encroachment removal squad deployed on site to maintain order.

To dismantle the unauthorised structure, the civic team utilised two gas cutters and engaged ten labourers. The demolition was completed under official supervision, and the unauthorised shed was fully removed.

Municipal officials reiterated that strict action will continue against illegal constructions and encroachments across the city. The Corporation emphasised that such violations disrupt planned development, misuse common spaces and undermine regulatory norms.

Through sustained enforcement and vigilant monitoring, NMMC aims to safeguard public spaces, ensure adherence to urban planning laws and maintain orderly development in Navi Mumbai.
