The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation carried out an anti-encroachment drive in the Koparkhairane ward, partially demolishing unauthorised constructions under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. Notices under Section 54 had been served earlier this month to two property occupants in Sector 3, Koparkhairane. Following non-compliance, civic officials undertook partial demolition of the structures and imposed penalties of INR 10,000 each, amounting to a total of INR 20,000. The operation was conducted under the direction of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with senior officials and police personnel present. The corporation has stated that similar enforcement action against illegal constructions will continue in the future.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation conducted a demolition drive against unauthorised constructions in the Koparkhairane division earlier this week, acting under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. The action was carried out under the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde and under the supervision of Additional Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad.
According to the civic administration, notices under Section 54 of the Act had been issued earlier this month to two occupants in Sector 3, Koparkhairane. The notices were served in connection with unauthorised constructions at Room No. 983, SS Type, belonging to Smt Subhadrabai Bhagwan Awhad, and at Room No. 579, SS Type, associated with Shri Shaitan Singh Chauhan and Manohar Kanwar.
Following the issuance of notices and in accordance with statutory provisions, the encroachment department undertook partial demolition of the said structures. In addition to the removal action, a penalty of INR 10,000 was imposed on each case, resulting in a total fine collection of INR 20,000.
The demolition drive was organised by the Koparkhairane ward office. Assistant Commissioner Bharat U Dhande and Junior Engineer Chandrakant Dhotre were present during the operation, along with other municipal officials and staff. Police personnel from the municipal police unit provided security during the action.
For the execution of the demolition, eight labourers were deployed, and equipment including two electronic hammers and one gas cutter was used.
The municipal corporation has indicated that similar anti-encroachment drives will continue to be intensified across its jurisdiction to address unauthorised constructions.
