Synopsis

The Jodhpur Division of North Western Railway has expanded its surveillance network by installing 447 CCTV cameras across eight railway stations to improve passenger safety and station monitoring. The largest deployment has taken place at Jaisalmer station, which recently underwent redevelopment under the Amrit Station Scheme at a cost of around INR 140 crore. Cameras have been installed across platforms, entry and exit points, waiting areas and other sensitive locations to support real-time monitoring, improve response to incidents and strengthen overall station management.

The Jodhpur Division of North Western Railway has completed the installation of 447 CCTV cameras across eight stations within its jurisdiction as part of efforts to enhance passenger safety and operational oversight. The initiative focuses on improving surveillance at high-footfall locations and ensuring better monitoring of daily station activities.

Jaisalmer railway station accounts for the highest number of cameras, with 219 units installed following its redevelopment under the Amrit Station Scheme. The station was upgraded at an estimated investment of INR 140 crore and now has extensive surveillance coverage across key passenger and operational zones.

Other stations covered under the project include Jodhpur with 59 cameras, Pali Marwar with 36, Raika Bagh Palace with 31, Nagaur with 24, Barmer with 29, Bhagat Ki Kothi with 32 and Munabao with 17 cameras. The placement has been planned to cover platforms, booking offices, waiting halls, foot overbridges and entry and exit points.

Officials from the Jodhpur Division stated that the expanded CCTV network will assist railway staff in maintaining order, monitoring crowd movement and responding quickly to any security-related incidents. The system is also expected to act as a deterrent against theft, vandalism and other unlawful activities.

The move aligns with wider efforts by Indian Railways to strengthen security infrastructure across stations, particularly those witnessing increased passenger traffic due to tourism, regional connectivity and station redevelopment initiatives.
