Synopsis

The Telangana government is working on a proposal to develop a direct railway link between Mellacheruvu in Suryapet district and Hyderabad to improve regional connectivity. The project is expected to support industrial activity, ease passenger movement, and improve access for devotees visiting the Sri Ishta Kameswari Sametha Swayambhu Shambulingeshwara Swamy temple. The plan includes a double railway line with passenger services. State authorities are coordinating with the Centre to take the proposal forward, while the government has also allocated INR 1 crore for temple-related facilities.

The Telangana government is planning to establish a new railway connection between Mellacheruvu and Hyderabad, aiming to improve transport access and support economic activity in Suryapet district. The proposed line is expected to improve passenger movement while also helping industries in the region gain better rail connectivity to the state capital.

The proposal was reiterated by N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Telangana's Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister, during his visit to Mellacheruvu. He said the state was actively pursuing the project and was in discussions with central authorities to move it forward. The plan includes the development of a double railway line along with passenger train services, which would cater to both local residents and visitors.

A key reason behind the proposed rail link is the steady rise in pilgrim footfall to the Sri Ishta Kameswari Sametha Swayambhu Shambulingeshwara Swamy temple, a prominent religious site in the region. Improved rail access is expected to reduce travel time and pressure on road networks, particularly during major religious occasions.

The minister also referred to earlier infrastructure efforts in the area, including the supply of Krishna river water for irrigation and drinking purposes to Mellacheruvu and nearby villages. He indicated that better rail connectivity would complement these developments and strengthen long-term growth prospects.

In addition, the Congress-led state government under Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has sanctioned INR 1 crore during the current year for Maha Shivaratri arrangements and temple infrastructure. The allocation is intended to improve facilities for devotees and manage increasing visitor numbers more efficiently.

The proposed Mellacheruvu-Hyderabad rail link fits into Telangana's broader focus on expanding rail infrastructure and improving regional connectivity, particularly for semi-urban and rural areas that rely heavily on road transport.
