Synopsis

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has started cement concretisation work on a key stretch of Nepean Sea Road in south Mumbai as part of its ongoing road improvement programme. The work covers a 770-metre section between Mukesh Chowk and Priyadarshini Park and is being taken up ahead of the monsoon. Traffic diversions and partial road closures have been introduced after necessary approvals. The project forms part of the citywide cement road initiative, which has crossed over 60% overall completion.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has commenced cement concretisation on a 770-metre stretch of Nepean Sea Road, spanning from Mukesh Chowk to Priyadarshini Park. The work is being carried out under Phase 1 of the city's cement road programme, which focuses on improving road durability and reducing repeated repairs during the monsoon season.

To facilitate the work, the civic body has secured a no-objection certificate from the traffic police and implemented temporary traffic diversions along both northbound and southbound lanes. Certain sections of the road have been partially closed, and motorists have been advised to follow alternate routes and traffic instructions during the construction period.

Civic officials indicated that detailed road-wise planning has been put in place to ensure timely execution of the project. The administration is aiming to complete the concretisation before the onset of the monsoon to avoid delays and minimise inconvenience to commuters and residents in the area.

As part of the larger cement concretisation drive across Mumbai, around 77% of Phase 1 work and about 52% of Phase 2 work has been completed so far. This puts the overall progress of the project at approximately 63%. The Nepean Sea Road stretch is considered important due to its traffic volume and coastal location, making it more vulnerable to monsoon-related damage.

The civic body has appealed to residents and commuters to cooperate during the execution phase, stating that traffic arrangements will remain in place until the work is completed. Officials have also indicated that safety measures and signage have been deployed at the site to manage traffic flow and reduce disruption.
