The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved three national highway projects involving an investment of INR 11,079.10 crore to upgrade key road stretches in Gujarat, Telangana and Maharashtra. The projects include four-laning of important corridors and rehabilitation of existing highways under Hybrid Annuity and EPC models. These upgrades are aimed at improving regional connectivity, reducing travel time, easing freight movement and supporting economic activity across industrial, tribal and logistics-linked districts. The projects are also expected to generate substantial employment during construction.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by the Prime Minister, has approved three national highway projects with a total capital outlay of INR 11,079.10 crore. The projects cover strategic stretches in Gujarat, Telangana and Maharashtra and form part of the government's ongoing effort to strengthen highway infrastructure and inter-state connectivity.
In Gujarat, approval has been granted for the construction of 107.67 km of four-lane highway on National Highway-56, covering the Dhamasiya-Bitada/Movi and Nasarpore-Malotha sections. The project will be developed at a cost of INR 4,583.64 crore under the Hybrid Annuity Model. The alignment passes through Narmada, Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Tapi and Bharuch districts, regions that include tribal belts as well as emerging industrial areas. The upgraded stretch is designed for a maximum speed of 100 km per hour, with an operational speed of around 70 km per hour, and is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve road safety. Construction activity is projected to generate over 42 lakh person-days of direct and indirect employment.
In Telangana, the government has approved the four-laning of the Gudebellur-Mahabubnagar section of National Highway-167 along the Hyderabad-Panaji Economic Corridor. The 80.01 km project involves an investment of INR 3,175.08 crore and will also be implemented under the Hybrid Annuity Model. The stretch runs through Gudebellur, Maganoor, Makthal, Marikal, Devarkadra, Jaklair, Yeligandla and Banderpally. Once completed, it will integrate with NH-150 and NH-167N, improve access to regional markets, and support smoother movement of goods and passengers across southern Telangana.
For Maharashtra, the CCEA has cleared the rehabilitation and upgradation of National Highway-160A from Ghoti and Trimbak through Mokhada, Jawhar, Manor and Palghar, covering a length of 154.635 km. The project will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction mode at a cost of INR 3,320.38 crore. This upgraded route is expected to act as an alternative freight corridor, helping divert heavy vehicles away from congested urban stretches, including Nashik city, and easing pressure on highways currently handling 40,000 to 60,000 vehicles daily.
Officials indicated that these projects are aligned with national infrastructure objectives to improve road quality, ensure better logistics efficiency and strengthen connectivity between economic, industrial and rural regions.
