The Rajasthan government has announced a focused urban infrastructure push with an allocation of INR 500 crore for drainage systems and smart city works across key towns. Jaipur and Ajmer are major beneficiaries, while several other cities will see flood-control interventions. The budget also provides for energy-efficient streetlighting, parking infrastructure, civic service centres and electric vehicle charging facilities. These measures build on earlier investments under national urban missions and aim to address long-standing issues related to flooding, mobility and municipal service delivery.
The Rajasthan government has outlined a targeted investment plan for urban infrastructure, placing strong emphasis on drainage improvement and smart city-related works. An allocation of INR 500 crore has been set aside specifically to strengthen drainage systems, with Jaipur receiving INR 500 crore for upgrades and Ajmer allocated INR 200 crore for similar works. These projects are intended to address recurring issues of waterlogging and inadequate stormwater management in expanding urban areas.
Beyond the two major cities, the state has earmarked funds for flood-control measures in Alwar, Bhiwadi, Udaipur, Kota, Churu, Pali, Nagaur and Bharatpur. The combined outlay for these interventions stands at INR 1,020 crore, aimed at reducing damage caused by heavy rainfall and improving urban resilience. Officials have indicated that these works will focus on critical drainage links and vulnerable zones identified in previous monsoon seasons.
The budget also includes provision for installing around seven lakh energy-efficient streetlights across urban local bodies. This move is expected to improve road safety and visibility while lowering electricity costs for municipalities. Urban mobility has been addressed through plans for smart parking systems in cities such as Jaipur, Kota, Bhilwara, Jodhpur and Ajmer. A multi-storey parking facility with capacity for about 200 vehicles has been proposed in the Mount Abu-Sirohi region, with an allocation of INR 10 crore.
To improve access to municipal services, the state plans to roll out Smart Service Centres in a phased manner across urban areas. These centres will offer digital and time-bound services, including issuance of civic certificates and clearances. Additional allocations include INR 30 crore for 300 mobile toilets, funding for facility centres in Jaipur and Ajmer, INR 40 crore for dog shelters, and eco-cooling shelters at key public locations. Electric vehicle charging stations are also planned at 100 municipal sites through public-private partnership models.
These initiatives add to ongoing urban development efforts under national programmes such as AMRUT 2.0 and the Smart Cities Mission, under which Rajasthan has been working on sewerage, water supply and sanitation projects in recent years.
