KPMG Global Services Delivery Platform has opened a new office in Kolkata for its Tax Business Unit, strengthening the city's position in global tax services delivery. The Kolkata team, which started with around 50 professionals, has grown to over 200 and now handles complex tax and compliance work for global clients. KPMG said the expansion reflects its long-term commitment to India as a core delivery base, with Kolkata benefiting from a strong talent pool, academic support, and rising demand for technology-enabled tax services.
KPMG Global Services Delivery Platform (KGSDP) has inaugurated a new office in Kolkata for its Tax Business Unit, reinforcing the city's growing role in global, technology-led tax services delivery. The move reflects KPMG's broader strategy to expand its international delivery capabilities through India.
The new facility is expected to support advanced tax specialisation and large-scale global professional services. KGSDP's operations in Kolkata began a few years ago with a small team of around 50 professionals working out of a co-working space. Since then, the team has expanded steadily to more than 200 professionals, who now handle complex tax and compliance work for global clients.
KPMG US Vice Chair for Tax Rema Serafi indicated that the new office highlights the firm's long-term commitment to the KGS Delivery Platform, which continues to play a central role in its global delivery model. She noted that sustained investments in technology and skilled talent are reshaping how tax services are delivered worldwide.
Sameer Chadha, Partner and Head of KPMG Global Services Delivery Platform, explained that Kolkata has emerged as a strategic growth location due to the availability of strong talent and a supportive academic ecosystem. These factors, he said, have enabled the firm to deliver global tax services at scale from the city.
As KPMG expands its global tax delivery model, a larger share of work is increasingly being anchored in India. Kolkata, in particular, is being positioned as a key centre for long-term growth, creating sustained career opportunities for tax professionals.
From its Kolkata base, KGSDP's tax team supports a wide range of services, including tax compliance and reporting, global mobility services, expatriate taxation, indirect tax, and transfer pricing. The firm is also hiring across multiple experience levels to support its expanding operations.
