Nagpur district received the highest allocation from Maharashtra's recent urban infrastructure fund, amounting to over INR 72 crore from the total INR 381 crore earmarked statewide. This represents more than 85% of Vidarbha's share under the Centre-backed capital investment scheme for 2025-26. The funds will be used for development plan (DP) roads, cement concrete roads with sewer lines, and connectivity corridors linking residential and industrial areas. Other Vidarbha districts, including Yavatmal, Gondia, and Akola, received smaller allocations for civic works. The resolution emphasizes strict execution, audits, and timely reporting by local authorities.
Nagpur district received over INR 72 crore from Maharashtra's urban infrastructure fund, marking the largest allocation in the state's latest development plan for 2025-26. This amount accounts for more than 85% of the INR 84.8 crore designated for Vidarbha under the Centre-backed capital investment scheme. Municipal councils in Narkhed, Katol, and Mowad are among the main beneficiaries. Overall, 15 municipal councils and nagar panchayats across Vidarbha and other regions were cleared for funding, representing roughly 22% of the total state allocation.
The projects in Nagpur and surrounding councils include construction of wide development plan (DP) roads ranging from 15 to 24 metres, cement concrete roads integrated with sewer lines, and connectivity corridors linking residential areas with MIDC industrial zones. The funds were approved under the Centre's Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme, which aims to enhance urban infrastructure in growing cities.
Other districts in Vidarbha received smaller allocations. Yavatmal district was allotted INR 10.4 crore, primarily for development in Ghatanji municipal council, including weekly markets and commercial infrastructure. Gondia district received INR 14.92 crore for cement concrete roads, drainage works, gardens, and playgrounds, while Balapur in Akola district was sanctioned INR 5.18 crore for playground development.
In comparison, Marathwada and western Maharashtra received significantly larger portions of the overall fund. Nanded, Latur, Parbhani, and Hingoli in Marathwada were approved for high-value projects including markets, commercial complexes, and extensive road works. Western Maharashtra tourist and urban centres such as Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar received INR 6.9 crore and INR 64.6 crore respectively, for roads and civic improvements.
The government resolution mandates strict accountability for local bodies. Authorities are responsible for project execution, quality, and maintenance, with no additional funding provided in case of cost overruns. Projects must not overlap with other state or central schemes. Compliance measures include mandatory third-party technical audits, geo-tagged photographs at multiple stages, and timely submission of utilisation certificates.
This allocation continues the state's effort to improve urban infrastructure systematically, building on earlier funding initiatives for civic works. The projects are expected to enhance road networks, sewer connectivity, and public amenities, while ensuring careful monitoring and efficient use of funds by local authorities.
