Indian Railways has completed the widening of four platforms at Ghaziabad railway station in Uttar Pradesh to address chronic congestion and enhance passenger movement, particularly during peak hours. The Railway Board said the upgrade forms part of ongoing efforts to improve safety, comfort and operational efficiency at one of the country's busiest junction stations. The project involved expanding the width of Platform Nos 5/6 and 3/4 by several metres over substantial lengths to accommodate higher footfall and reduce crowding. Officials stated that the widened platforms were finished within the planned timeline and will contribute to smoother boarding and deboarding as well as overall station handling capacity. The work reflects the broader focus of Indian Railways on enhancing infrastructure at key stations to support growing passenger demand and travel comfort.
Indian Railways has completed the widening of four platforms at Ghaziabad railway station in Uttar Pradesh as part of efforts to reduce congestion and improve passenger movement and safety, the Railway Board said in an announcement earlier this week.
The project focused on expanding the width of Platform Nos 5/6 and 3/4 to better handle increasing footfall at one of the busiest junctions on the national rail network. Work on Platform Nos 5/6 included widening by approximately 4 metres in the middle portion and about 1.5 metres at the end portion along a stretch of roughly 300 metres. Platform Nos 3/4 were similarly widened by around 4 metres in the central section and about 2 metres at the ends over a length of nearly 200 metres.
According to the Railway Board, the platform upgrades were completed within the stipulated timeline, addressing long-standing concerns about passenger movement during peak travel hours. Officials said the expanded platforms will help ease crowding, facilitate smoother boarding and alighting, and enhance overall operational efficiency at the station.
The enhancement forms part of broader infrastructure improvements at Ghaziabad and other major stations across the network, aimed at accommodating rising passenger numbers and improving the travel experience. By increasing platform capacity and improving circulation space, the project is expected to contribute to better safety outcomes and a more comfortable environment for daily commuters and long-distance travellers alike.
Ghaziabad railway station falls under the administrative control of the Northern Railway's Delhi Division and serves as a key transit point for passengers travelling to and from the national capital region and beyond. The recent enhancements align with Indian Railways ongoing efforts to upgrade station facilities, manage peak hour congestion and support seamless movement across the rail network.
