Maruti Suzuki India Limited will invest INR 35,000 crore to set up a new vehicle manufacturing plant near Sanand in Gujarat's Ahmedabad district, strengthening the state's position as a major automobile manufacturing hub. The proposed facility will come up at Khoraj GIDC on 1,750 acres of land and is expected to generate employment opportunities for over 12,000 people. The Gujarat government described the project as a significant step in expanding India's most competitive automotive corridor and deepening India Japan industrial ties. The investment follows a memorandum of understanding signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024. The new plant will complement Maruti Suzuki's existing Hansalpur facility, which is also expanding capacity, underscoring the company's long-term commitment to Gujarat.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited will establish a new vehicle manufacturing plant near Sanand in Ahmedabad district with an investment of INR 35,000 crore, the Gujarat government announced on Saturday. The facility will be developed at Khoraj GIDC on 1,750 acres of land provided by the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel formally handed over an investment letter to Maruti Suzuki Managing Director Hisashi Takeuchi in Gandhinagar. According to the state government, the upcoming plant is expected to create potential employment opportunities for more than 12,000 people.
Describing the project as more than just a manufacturing unit, the chief minister said it would further strengthen India's largest and most competitive automobile manufacturing corridor. He also highlighted the strong India Gujarat Japan relationship, noting that sustained policy support and infrastructure development have made Gujarat an attractive destination for global manufacturers.
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said Japan has remained a key partner country since the inception of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit and that the state would continue extending proactive support to Maruti Suzuki, as it has done in the past.
An MoU for the new plant was signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024. Maruti Suzuki already operates a manufacturing facility at Hansalpur in Gujarat, which currently produces 7.5 lakh cars annually. The company plans to increase this capacity to 10 lakh units per year by the 2026-27 financial year, further reinforcing Gujarat's role in India's automotive growth story.
