The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has intensified actions against illegal constructions across the city to enforce urban planning rules. A recent demolition targeted an unauthorised house in Alape village that violated approved building plans and misused ground-floor parking space. The operation involved multiple civic departments and was carried out under MCC Commissioner Ravichandra Naik. Officials said similar drives will continue, although some building owners have challenged orders in court. Past operations show the city's consistent efforts to curb unauthorised constructions and maintain compliance for planned urban development and public safety.
The Mangaluru City Corporation is actively conducting demolition drives to remove buildings constructed in violation of city regulations. A recent operation focused on an unauthorised house in Alape village, which ignored approved building plans and diverted the ground-floor parking space for other uses. This action was taken to uphold planning norms and public interest. The demolition was ordered by MCC Commissioner Ravichandra Naik after detailed reports from the town planning section confirmed that the owner had not complied with earlier notices to correct the violations.
Officials highlighted that the building had altered the ground-floor ramp and lowered the adjoining road, further breaching safety and planning rules. The operation was carried out with coordination among the corporation's engineering and town planning divisions, the electricity supply company Mescom, and local police to ensure the procedure was safe and legally compliant.
MCC officials stated that similar demolition drives have been carried out in the past to address illegal constructions that threaten public convenience and the orderly development of the city. While legal challenges by some building owners have delayed enforcement in certain cases, the corporation emphasized that it will continue to take action against violations once court verdicts allow.
The MCC reinforced that unauthorised constructions that obstruct urban planning or compromise public safety will be addressed promptly. The enforcement relies on provisions under the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act, 1976, and involves thorough inspections and multi-departmental cooperation. Such operations are part of a continuing effort to maintain planned urban development and prevent misuse of public space.
