Synopsis

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has intensified its house tax recovery drive across several city zones to collect long-pending dues from residential, commercial, and institutional property owners. Enforcement teams sealed and attached multiple properties, leading to on-the-spot collections in some cases. Officials stated that property tax is a key revenue source for maintaining civic services and warned that strict action would continue against defaulters. The drive follows similar measures taken in the past against major public and private entities with large outstanding amounts.

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation has tightened enforcement measures to recover unpaid house tax, targeting properties with significant arrears across different parts of the city. Acting under the directions of the municipal commissioner, zonal teams carried out coordinated inspections and enforcement action against defaulters, covering both residential and commercial establishments.

In one of the key actions, a property located on Naval Kishore Road was sealed after house tax dues were found to be close to INR 18 lakh. Following the sealing process, the property owner deposited around INR 4 lakh with the civic body. Similar action was taken against other properties on BN Road where arrears had remained unpaid for a prolonged period.

The drive also extended to institutional properties. A government veterinary hospital building at Jafar Kheda was attached and sealed due to outstanding house tax exceeding INR 24 lakh. Officials stated that repeated notices had been issued earlier, but payment was not made, leaving enforcement as the only option.

In another zone, the corporation sealed 63 shops, including 33 units located in Sai Market opposite BBD College. The total pending dues from these shops were estimated at nearly INR 24 lakh. During the course of the drive in that zone, the civic body managed to collect more than INR 15 lakh, indicating partial compliance following enforcement action.

Municipal officials reiterated that house tax forms a major share of the corporation's revenue and is essential for funding basic civic services such as sanitation, road maintenance, and public infrastructure. Property owners were advised to clear outstanding dues voluntarily to avoid sealing or attachment of their premises.

The current action follows earlier instances where the Lucknow Municipal Corporation had taken strict steps against large defaulters, including government institutions and commercial establishments, for unpaid property tax running into several years. These measures reflect a continued push by the civic body to strengthen revenue collection and improve compliance.
