Cochin Shipyard Limited recently handed over MS Heinz, the first vessel in the HS EcoFreighter series, to German shipping company HS Schiffahrts UG and Co KG. Designed by Groot Ship Design, Netherlands, and built according to DNV standards, the 7,000 DWT ice-class vessel can transport project cargo, steel coils, containers, timber, paper, coal, grain, and dangerous goods. Featuring the Groot Cross-Bow design for fuel efficiency and a single adaptable cargo hold, the vessel's delivery underscores CSL's expanding capabilities in constructing technologically advanced merchant ships for international clients.
Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), a central government public sector company, recently delivered a Multi-Purpose Vessel (MPV) to a German shipping company. The vessel, named MS Heinz, is the first of the HS EcoFreighter series and was handed over to HS Schiffahrts UG (haftungsbeschrnkt) and Co KG, Germany, earlier this week.
The Delivery and Acceptance Protocol was signed virtually between Dr S Harikrishnan, Director (Operations) at CSL, and Heinz Josef Schepers, Director of the German firm, with senior officials from both sides present. The vessel was designed by Groot Ship Design in the Netherlands and built at CSL following the Classification Rules of DNV.
MS Heinz is a 7,000 DWT ice-class vessel capable of transporting project cargo, heavy cargo, steel coils, containers, timber, paper, dry bulk cargoes like coal and grain, as well as dangerous goods, making it suitable for global trading. It features a raked stem with the Groot Cross-Bow design to improve speed and fuel efficiency, along with a transom stern.
The ship includes a single large cargo hold with six movable panels, allowing for flexible cargo arrangements, including multiple grain bulkhead positions and a tween deck configuration. Propulsion comes from a medium-speed four-stroke diesel engine connected to a controllable pitch propeller (CPP) through a reduction gearbox.
CSL noted that the delivery of MS Heinz signifies an important milestone in its growing presence in the international commercial shipbuilding sector and highlights the yard's ability to construct advanced and versatile merchant vessels for global clients.
