Gurgaon's district administration has kicked off the verification process for 6,743 affordable homes reserved for economically weaker sections (EWS) under the Haryana government's urban housing initiative, with 4,728 applicants cleared in the first phase. The 1-BHK flats, priced at a highly subsidised INR 1.5 lakh each, are located in private colonies and high-rise societies, providing access to planned, organised urban housing. Authorities received more than 120,000 applications for the units, and initial checks found a substantial number of submissions valid, advancing them to the next stage. Eligible applicants are required to pay a booking amount to move forward in the allocation process, which will conclude with a draw to finalise allotments. Officials have underscored the transparent conduct of the process and urged applicants to interact only through official channels.
The Gurgaon district administration has commenced the initial verification stage for the allotment of 6,743 affordable homes under the Chief Minister Urban Housing Scheme, part of the Haryana government's broader push to provide dignified residences for economically weaker sections (EWS) of society. The drive has attracted overwhelming interest from prospective beneficiaries, with more than 120,000 applications received for the limited pool of units.
Of the total applications submitted to the housing corporation, 12,384 were earmarked for processing in the first phase. Following document scrutiny and eligibility checks, 4,728 applicants were cleared to proceed to the next stage, which entails payment of a fixed booking amount within a stipulated timeframe. Successful verification at this step will enable these applicants to enter a subsequent draw process to determine final allotments. Applicants will be required to deposit the remainder of the flat price after the draw to secure ownership. Those not allotted a unit in the draw will receive refunds of their booking payments.
The affordable homes on offer are structured as 1-BHK flats priced at INR 1.5 lakh each and are located within private colonies and high-rise developments. This arrangement aims to integrate EWS beneficiaries into formal urban neighbourhoods with access to proper infrastructure and services, rather than relegating them to peripheral or informal settlements.
Administrative officials have emphasised the transparent nature of the process, urging applicants to make payments and check updates only through official platforms to guard against potential cyber fraud. The verification phase is critical to ensuring that only eligible candidates proceed, with the next phase contingent upon timely payment of the booking amount. Once the draw process concludes, successful allottees will be expected to complete the balance payment to effect formal allotment.
The strong response underscores the persistent demand for affordable housing solutions in rapidly growing urban hubs such as Gurgaon. While current policy caps remain under pressure due to rising construction and land costs, as seen in broader debates around affordable housing in the region, the government's initiative continues to provide low-cost homeownership options to low-income families.
Overall, the scheme's progress marks an important step in addressing housing gaps, although developers and stakeholders continue to call for policy revisions to keep affordable housing delivery viable amid market dynamics.
