The MATECIA Exhibition, in collaboration with SURFACES REPORTER, is set to host a major architecture, interiors and building materials event in Kolkata, bringing East and Northeast India into sharper national focus. Scheduled from 30 January to 1 February 2026 at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan, the three-day platform will bring together architects, interior designers, developers, manufacturers and dealers from more than a dozen states across the region. Spread across 1.5 lakh sq ft, the event will feature over 100 brands, showcase more than 500 projects and attract up to 16,000 visitors. With dedicated honours, knowledge platforms and curated showcases, the initiative aims to challenge long-held perceptions about the region and underline its growing role in India's architecture, design and building materials landscape.
Kolkata is set to host one of the largest regional gatherings of the architecture, interiors and building materials industry, as the MATECIA Exhibition partners with SURFACES REPORTER to stage a three-day event focused on East and Northeast India. The event will be held from 30 January to 1 February 2026 at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan, positioning the city as a key cultural and professional bridge for the region's design community.
The platform is expected to bring together more than 150 architecture and design firms, interior designers, developers, brands and channel partners from over 12 states, including West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and several northeastern states. By convening stakeholders from across this geography, the event seeks to highlight the scale, diversity and maturity of architectural and design practices emerging from regions that are often perceived as peripheral to mainstream industry activity.
Spread across more than 1,50,000 sq ft, the exhibition will feature over 100 interior, surface and building material brands, alongside presentations by more than 200 architects and interior designers. Over 500 landmark projects from across East and Northeast India will be showcased, with visitor footfall estimated at between 14,000 and 16,000 professionals from over 100 towns and cities.
A central element of the programme will be the Surfaces Reporter Salutes Architecture & Design Honours, scheduled for 31 January 2026. This initiative, positioned as the first collective regional recognition platform dedicated exclusively to East and Northeast India, will honour around 100 architects and interior designers for their contributions across residential, commercial, hospitality, institutional and urban design segments.
Industry leaders from building materials associations, manufacturing companies and standards bodies will participate in the inauguration and key sessions, reinforcing the event's industry-wide relevance. According to the organisers, the choice of Kolkata reflects both its cultural significance and its strategic position as a gateway to the eastern and northeastern markets.
In addition to exhibitions and honours, the event will feature knowledge-led platforms such as India Interior Retailing, aimed at fostering dialogue between industry leaders, and the Surfaces Reporter SHOWCASE, which will facilitate direct interaction between brands and designers. Together, these elements are intended to reposition East and Northeast India as emerging growth markets for architecture, interiors and building materials, and to integrate the region's design narrative more firmly into the national discourse.
