Synopsis

Several major infrastructure projects in Bandra East, including the Metro Line 2B and the new Bombay High Court building, have received notices from the H-East ward of BMC for violating air pollution control norms. Contractors are required to submit explanations and take corrective measures promptly, with stricter actions, including work stoppages, on the horizon. Similar warnings had been issued earlier to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train site. A ready-mix concrete plant in BKC was recently shut down for non-compliance, highlighting ongoing challenges in enforcing environmental standards in large urban projects.

The H-East ward of Mumbai's BMC has issued show-cause notices to several infrastructure projects in Bandra East for failing to adhere to air pollution control regulations. The projects under scrutiny include Metro Line 2B and the new Bombay High Court building. Contractors involved have been asked to provide explanations and immediately rectify the identified violations. Officials have indicated that if corrective actions are not taken, stricter measures such as halting work will be enforced.

Earlier, the H-East ward had issued similar notices to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project site at BKC. Following inspections, operations at a ready-mix concrete plant in BKC were temporarily shut down as the site failed to comply with air pollution guidelines despite prior warnings. Common issues identified across sites include inadequate dust suppression measures, like misting, and improper or missing site barricading, which contribute to environmental pollution and pose risks to nearby residents.

Authorities have emphasized that compliance with air pollution control standards is mandatory for all construction and infrastructure projects. The notices are part of a broader effort by municipal authorities to enforce environmental regulations and ensure sustainable urban development. Projects in high-density areas like Bandra East are being closely monitored to prevent further violations and protect public health.
