The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has launched a two-year citywide programme to systematically recarpet and repair major roads, aiming to fix potholes, uneven surfaces and ageing pavements. The initiative will focus on high-traffic corridors, with planned resurfacing, structural strengthening and targeted repairs in areas prone to repeated damage. Advanced materials will be used to improve durability and reduce road dust pollution. Under the plan, priority routes and high-traffic corridors will undergo scheduled recarpeting and structural strengthening to enhance surface integrity and ride quality. The approach includes full-depth resurfacing where required, targeted repairs in zones prone to recurring damage and application of advanced materials designed to improve durability and reduce dust generation from road abrasion.
Civic authorities have indicated that the work will be phased to limit disruption during peak travel periods, with crews coordinating closely with traffic management teams to maintain commuter flow. The programme also incorporates measures to ensure environmental and safety standards are upheld during execution, including dust suppression and traffic diversion planning.
Improved road surfaces are expected to deliver multiple benefits: smoother travel for motorists and public transport, reduced incidence of vehicle damage due to surface defects, and a measurable reduction in particulate matter arising from road dust.
