The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to open a large part of the 43 km Gurgaon-Pataudi-Rewari highway by mid February, offering a smoother route for commuters and freight traffic. While most of the main carriageway is complete, key structures such as the railway overbridge near Pahari village and a flyover at Dwarka Expressway junction will open later due to delays in approvals and utility shifting. Started in late 2021, the project has faced repeated delays but is expected to significantly reduce congestion on the Delhi-Jaipur corridor and improve regional connectivity.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that most of the Gurgaon-Pataudi-Rewari highway will be opened to traffic by mid February. This corridor, which stretches 43 km, is expected to ease heavy congestion on the Delhi-Jaipur route and provide a faster option for daily commuters and freight operators. Officials noted that while the majority of the carriageway and roadworks are ready, some critical structures such as the railway overbridge (RoB) near Pahari village and the flyover at the Dwarka Expressway junction are still under construction and will open at a later stage.
The highway project was formally inaugurated in July 2020, with actual construction starting in November 2021. Originally, the project was expected to be completed by late 2022, but multiple delays extended the timeline. Key factors for the delays included shifting of a high tension 400 KV power line at Dwarka Expressway, obtaining approvals for the RoB from railway authorities, and other utility relocations. Despite these challenges, significant progress has been made on the main corridor, allowing NHAI to plan a partial opening by mid February.
The project, estimated to cost around INR 900 crore, will improve connectivity between Gurgaon, southern Haryana, and neighbouring Rajasthan. Once fully operational, the highway will serve as an alternative route to industrial hubs such as Manesar, Dharuhera, and Bilaspur, reducing traffic on NH48 and enabling smoother freight movement. NHAI sources confirmed that the majority of construction on the main carriageway, including bridges and intersections, is complete. Remaining structures, such as the RoB and the Dwarka Expressway flyover, are expected to be finished by mid year.
