Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for infrastructure projects across West Bengal and Assam valued at more than INR 13,000 crore. The initiatives include national highway expansions, a new airport terminal, and a brownfield fertiliser plant. In West Bengal, upgraded highways will reduce travel time and strengthen trade and tourism links. Assam's projects aim to enhance passenger capacity at Guwahati airport and boost domestic fertiliser production. The visit also includes paying tribute to martyrs of the Assam Movement, connecting heritage with development.

In West Bengal's Nadia district, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the 66.7-km four-laning of the Barajaguli Krishnanagar section of National Highway-34 and lay the foundation stone for the four-laning of the 17.6-km Barasat Barajaguli section of the same highway in North 24 Parganas district. The total investment for these highway projects is approximately INR 3,200 crore. Officials note these upgrades are expected to reduce travel time by around two hours, ease traffic congestion, and strengthen connectivity between Kolkata, Siliguri, neighbouring districts, and even cross-border trade routes. Improved road conditions are also projected to enhance tourism and logistics efficiency across the region.
After the highway ceremonies, the Prime Minister will travel to Guwahati, Assam, to inaugurate the expanded terminal building at Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport. The integrated terminal spans nearly 1.4 lakh square metres and is designed to accommodate up to 1.3 crore passengers annually. The project also includes upgrades to the runway, airfield systems, aprons, and taxiways. The design incorporates local cultural and ecological elements, including bamboo sourced from Assam, reflecting the region's heritage and sustainability focus.
The following day, the Prime Minister will pay tribute to martyrs of the Assam Movement at Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Boragaon, Guwahati, highlighting the importance of linking development with regional history. He will then perform the foundation stone ceremony for a brownfield ammonia-urea fertiliser project in Namrup, Dibrugarh district, under Assam Valley Fertiliser and Chemical Company Limited. The estimated investment exceeds INR 10,600 crore. This project is intended to meet local and regional fertiliser demand, reduce import dependence, and generate employment opportunities for the surrounding communities.
These projects continue the government's earlier infrastructure initiatives in eastern and northeastern India, including road improvements, bridges, and urban utility projects. Local authorities emphasise that these investments form part of a long-term strategy to improve regional connectivity, industrial output, and economic integration, benefiting both urban and rural populations.
