The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has initiated a large-scale enforcement drive against unauthorised constructions across the city, targeting buildings constructed without approved plans, excess floor space intensity or in contravention of zoning norms. Civic teams have identified multiple sites where construction has progressed without requisite permissions, issuing stop-work orders and formal notices to property owners and developers. Officials noted that several buildings and ongoing constructions were found to be in breach of regulatory requirements, including unauthorised expansions beyond approved floor area, lack of sanctioned layouts, construction in prohibited zones and failure to obtain clearance certificates. In response, stop-work orders have been issued at numerous sites, and notices demanding compliance or cessation of unauthorised activities have been served to builders and property owners.
The corporation has warned that persistent violations could attract stiff penalties, demotion of unauthorised floor space or even demolition in accordance with municipal bylaws. Enforcement teams are cataloguing deviations and preparing cases for legal action where necessary, with some matters set to be pursued before appropriate adjudicatory bodies.
Municipal officials said the crackdown reflects growing civic concern over unregulated development, safety risks to residents and the undermining of orderly urban growth. They stressed that adherence to approved plans and building regulations is essential to protect both public safety and the city's urban fabric.
